FSA deadline 2026: is your money safe?
Most FSA money must be spent by your plan year end or it can be forfeited. Here are the dates and rules to check.
Date 1: plan year end
For most calendar-year plans that is December 31, 2026. Fiscal-year plans end on a different day. Check yours.
Use it or lose it
Unspent health FSA money can be forfeited unless your employer added a carryover or a grace period.
Option 1: carryover
If your plan offers it, up to $680 of unused 2026 money can move into 2027. A lower cap is allowed.
Option 2: grace period
Up to 2½ months, which is March 15, 2027 for a calendar-year plan. A plan cannot have both options.
Date 2: claim deadline
The last day to file receipts is separate from the last day to get care. Ask your administrator for both.
